An impressive pair of French Late 19th-century Neoclassical / Empire style figural candelabras, finely executed in patinated bronze, ormolu, and richly veined marble.
Each candelabrum is modeled as a standing classical female figure dressed in flowing antique robes, her dark patinated bronze surface providing a dramatic contrast to the finely chased gilt-bronze details. From either side of the figure extend two gracefully scrolling candle arms, forming elegant circular loops before terminating in gilt-bronze candle cups with stylized foliate supports. The sweeping arms create a particularly sculptural and balanced silhouette.
The figures stand barefoot upon polygonal platforms raised on substantial stepped variegated marble pedestal bases. Each pedestal is further enriched with applied gilt-bronze ornament, including an elaborate central classical mask framed by scrolling foliage, reinforcing the strong Greco-Roman influence of the composition.
