Pair of traditional earthenware ceremonial vases, designed with molded figures, animals, and architecture in a tiered arrangement comprising all around the neck of each piece. Made in China, c. 1900's.
Ceremonial jars were most likely placed in the tomb so the soul of the deceased would have a place to reside. They would also be placed there to serve the deceased in the afterlife. The design and depictions all around often symbolized prosperity, protection, and a smooth transition to the afterlife.
