An impressive pair of 19th-century French patinated bronze vases, richly modeled with classical figural scenes and mounted on substantial variegated marble bases.
Each vase features a broad flared rim above a cylindrical body decorated in high relief with classical and mythological figures, putti, draped figures, chariots, and abundant foliate ornament. The detailed narrative scenes encircle the vessels, lending them a strong sculptural quality inspired by the art and mythology of Classical Antiquity.
The lower section of each vase is deeply fluted and flanked by a pair of dramatically curved handles emerging from finely modeled decorative masks. The vessels rest upon fluted pedestal stems and stepped bronze plinths.
Each bronze is elevated on a substantial rectangular block of warm salmon and rose-colored variegated marble, set within a bronze-mounted base decorated with a repeating leaf motif and raised on rounded feet.
