A spectacular and highly decorative pair of French Maison Baguès style two-light wall sconces, circa 1980s, conceived as elaborate flowering trees embellished with rock crystal, smoky quartz-colored drops, and sculptural parrots.
Each sconce is constructed around an elegant gilt and patinated metal framework modeled as twisting branches and vines, creating the naturalistic botanical vocabulary closely associated with Maison Baguès-style French lighting. The branches are abundantly decorated with individually formed clear crystal leaves, flowers, teardrop pendants, and large smoky quartz-colored drops, producing a richly layered and luminous composition.
The focal point of each sconce is a beautifully modeled white parrot perched among the branches, lending the pair an exotic and whimsical character. Below, a substantial faceted rock crystal-form body anchors the composition, while two scrolling branches extend outward to form the candle arms. Each is finished with foliate detailing, suspended crystal drops, faux candle sleeves, and flame-form bulbs.
The combination of rock crystal, smoky quartz tones, parrots, botanical branchwork, and warm gilt-metal surfacescreates the jewel-like appearance for which French Maison Baguès-inspired lighting is celebrated. When illuminated, the numerous crystalline elements capture and refract the light while the sculptural branchwork produces an exceptionally decorative silhouette.
