An exceptional and monumental Victorian Gothic Revival bird cage crafted in richly figured mahogany and raised on its original matching stand.
Architecturally conceived in the form of a romantic Gothic pavilion, the cage displays extraordinary hand-carved detailing throughout. The steeply pitched roof is clad in carved shingle-like panels and rises to a lantern tower crowned by a turned finial. Flanking gabled sections with pierced tracery echo ecclesiastical window forms, reinforcing its Gothic inspiration.
The façade features elaborate fretwork, arched cathedral-style openings, turned columns, and finely executed lattice panels. The warm tone and depth of the mahogany enhance the sculptural quality of the carving, giving the piece both architectural gravitas and visual warmth.
The original stand, also executed in mahogany, features turned legs and an X-form stretcher for stability and elegance. A discreet drawer integrated into the base adds functionality.
