An exceptional and richly ornamented 19th century French Boulle cartel clock with matching pedestal, executed in the grand Louis XIV revival tradition and displaying extraordinary sculptural and decorative presence.
The clock case is veneered in deep ebonized wood, lavishly inlaid with brass Boulle marquetry forming scrolling foliate and arabesque patterns across the façade and sides. The dial is framed by an elaborate gilt bronze surround and fitted with enameled Roman numeral cartouches, set against a finely chased central medallion.
The case is profusely mounted with high-quality gilt bronze sculpture, including winged figures, mythological creatures, scrolling foliage, and architectural details. A dramatic winged angel surmounts the crest, while the lower register features a richly modeled figural scene beneath the dial. The sides are further adorned with sculptural creatures, adding depth and theatricality to the composition.
The clock is supported by a dramatic wall-mounted pedestal, also decorated with brass inlay and gilt bronze mounts, centered by a finely modeled mask or face at the base—an emblematic motif associated with Louis XIV–inspired decorative arts. The pedestal enhances both the architectural presence and visual balance of the ensemble.
