An exceptional large-scale hand-blown Murano glass vase, made in Italy circa the 1960s and attributed to Barovier & Toso.
The substantial, gently tapering body is formed from clear and gold flecks, bubble-rich glass and enveloped in an exuberant arrangement of thick, hot-applied polychrome glass filaments. Saturated trails of ruby red, cobalt and turquoise blue, amber, green, and black extend vertically across the vessel, creating a deeply textured surface with an expressive, almost painterly quality.
The decoration becomes increasingly sculptural toward the upper body, culminating in a broad, free-form mouth with a dramatically undulating rim. Each side presents a different composition of color and movement, emphasizing the vase’s individually handcrafted character.
Impressive at over 18 inches high, this highly decorative vessel makes a commanding centerpiece for a dining table, console, pedestal, or curated collection of Italian Mid-Century Modern glass.
