A striking malachite lidded box of substantial scale, distinguished by the exceptionally vivid natural figuring and concentric banding characteristic of this lovely ornamental stone.
The rectangular form is clad throughout in richly patterned green malachite, displaying dramatic swirling striations in tones ranging from deep forest green to bright emerald and turquoise green.
The fitted lid is surmounted by a sculptural malachite knop, while the box is raised slightly on rounded ball-form feet, giving the otherwise architectural form a refined decorative lift. The clean geometry of the case allows the natural beauty of the mineral to remain the principal visual focus. Also, with its generous proportions and intensely decorative surface, the piece functions equally well as a jewelry box, tabletop casket, decorative storage box, or sculptural objet.
