Elegant pair of early 19th century Russian Neoclassical side chairs, finely crafted in mahogany with parcel-gilt decoration and black upholstered seats. Each chair features a dramatic shield-form open back with a carved fan motif, central gilt rosette medallion, and a border of gilt laurel-style ornament.
The chairs are raised on tapering fluted front legs with gilt acanthus and floral mounts, continuing the refined classical vocabulary throughout the design. The contrast of warm mahogany, rich gilding, and dark upholstery gives the pair a formal and architectural presence.
