An elegant circa 1930s Black Knight Hohenberg Bavaria porcelain dinner service for twelve in the “Eldorado” pattern, comprising 72 pieces.
Crafted in fine white ivory porcelain, the service is richly embellished with elaborate gilt decoration consisting of scrolling foliate motifs, floral ornament, decorative borders, and extensive hand-finished gilding. The combination of the white ivory porcelain body and densely applied gold decoration gives the service a particularly luxurious and sophisticated appearance.
The dinner plates feature distinctive shaped and scalloped borders, while the square plates are designed with softly canted corners and elaborate gilt ornament surrounding the central field. The soup plates, cake plates, dessert plates, and double-handled bouillon cups continue the coordinated decorative scheme, creating a remarkably cohesive formal table service.
The undersides bear the period Black Knight backstamp depicting a mounted knight and reading:
“Black Knight – Registered U.S.A. – Hohenberg Bavaria – Eldorado – Copyright.”
The Black Knight name was used for porcelain produced in Bavaria for the American market during the early 20th century, with this Hohenberg mark associated with the circa 1925–1941 period. This service can therefore be confidently placed in the 1930s.
