Elegant 19th century French commode crafted in the Louis XV taste, featuring richly figured wood parquetry and marquetry decoration throughout. The façade is beautifully inlaid with intricate floral and foliate motifs centered within an oval medallion panel, framed by geometric parquetry borders and decorative banding.
The case is surmounted by a striking variegated marble top with warm tones of cream, rose, and burgundy, cut with a shaped front edge that follows the graceful contours of the commode below. The marble complements the warm walnut and fruitwood veneers used in the elaborate marquetry work.
The commode retains its original gilt bronze (ormolu) mounts and hardware, including decorative drawer pulls, escutcheons, and corner mounts that accent the cabriole legs. The gently serpentine front houses multiple drawers, including a central long drawer above a larger compartment framed by the oval marquetry panel.
Raised on slender cabriole legs terminating in bronze sabots, the piece reflects the refined craftsmanship of French cabinetmaking during the late 19th century, when historic Louis XV designs were revived with exceptional decorative detail.
