A finely modeled 19th-century French bronze sculpture depicting Zeno of Elea, the ancient Greek Pre-Socratic philosopher celebrated for his paradoxes concerning motion, plurality, and infinity.
The philosopher is portrayed seated in a contemplative classical pose, his bearded face rendered with considerable character and detail. His deeply modeled hair and beard, expressive features, and layered drapery give the figure a strong sense of realism and intellectual gravitas. One arm is extended while the other rests across his lap, creating a balanced and animated composition.
The bronze retains a warm brown-gold patina, with subtle tonal variation emphasizing the folds of the robes and finely chased anatomical details. The figure is raised on a substantial oval variegated marble base.
