A finely cast 19th-century French patinated bronze figural group after Claude Michel, known as Clodion (1738–1814), based on his celebrated 1762 composition depicting the followers of Bacchus.
Two bacchantes are portrayed in classical drapery and vine-wreathed hair. The standing figure gracefully carries a fruiting grapevine, while her kneeling companion rests beside an overturned wine amphora surrounded by clusters of grapes. Their intertwined poses, animated garments, and gently idealized expressions capture the sensual movement and mythological character associated with Clodion’s Rococo sculpture.
The casting is particularly detailed throughout the flowing drapery, hair, sandals, grape leaves, fruit, amphora, and textured naturalistic base. A warm, richly varied brown patina with softly highlighted areas enhances the modeling and sculptural depth.
