A superb and finely executed 19th century Sèvres porcelain urn, richly decorated and mounted with exceptional gilt bronze (ormolu) fittings, exemplifying the highest level of French porcelain production of the period.
The baluster-form body is hand-painted with an exquisitely rendered romantic figural scene, depicting a maiden and cherub within a lush pastoral landscape. The painting demonstrates refined modeling, soft tonal transitions, and the delicacy of execution for which Sèvres is renowned. The scene is set against a luminous pale blue ground, lavishly enriched with hand-applied gilding in classical foliate, laurel, and anthemion motifs.
The urn is flanked by sculptural ram’s head gilt bronze handles, a neoclassical motif associated with luxury Sèvres-mounted wares, while pierced and chased bronze mounts accent the shoulder, neck, and foot. The piece is surmounted by a domed lid with a gilt finial and raised on a square base enriched with further gilt bronze ornamentation, enhancing its architectural presence.
