An elegant set of six Italian Neoclassical-style etchings, dating to the Mid-20th century, depicting an assortment of classical urns, covered vases, and tazzas inspired by ancient Roman decorative forms.
The compositions are based on the celebrated antiquarian vessel studies associated with Carlo Antonini’s Manuale di varj ornamenti componenti la serie de’ vasi antichi, originally published in Rome in the early 19th century. Each work presents an individual vessel in finely rendered monochromatic detail, emphasizing sculptural ornament, fluting, foliate decoration, animal-form handles, and other motifs derived from Classical antiquity.
The six works are presented as a cohesive decorative suite, each surrounded by layered neutral-toned matting and housed in coordinating giltwood frames. The restrained palette and architectural subject matter give the group a sophisticated Grand Tour character, particularly well suited for a library, dining room, entry hall, gallery wall, or classically inspired interior.
