A finely modeled gilt bronze Corpus Christi, after a celebrated model attributed to Antonio Susini, one of the most accomplished bronze sculptors of the late Renaissance and early Baroque period. The figure depicts Christ in the three-nail type, fully modeled in the round, with a slender, elongated torso and carefully articulated anatomy.
The arms extend outward in a broad V-shaped gesture, intentionally asymmetrical, enhancing the expressive tension of the composition. Christ’s head turns slightly upward and to the left, with open eyes and parted lips, conveying the emotional intensity of the final moments on the Cross—mutatis mutandis, echoing the last words of Christ.
