An exceptionally preserved fossil crab identified as Galene granulifera, dating to the Pliocene Epoch and originating from the uncommon fossil locality of Taiwan. Unlike many fossil crustacean specimens that are preserved in relief, this example has been expertly prepared and mounted in three dimensions, allowing full appreciation of the crab's natural form.
The specimen displays all eight walking legs, both claws, and the complete carapace resting naturally on its original stone matrix. The detailed preservation highlights the distinctive anatomy of the species, including the textured shell surface, articulated limbs, and pincers. The natural stone matrix further enhances the presentation, creating a striking and scientifically significant display piece.
Fossil crabs from Taiwan are encountered far less frequently than examples from more common fossil localities, making this specimen particularly desirable for collectors of fossils, natural history objects, and cabinet of curiosity displays.
