An exceptional and monumental early 19th century French chinoiserie wall clock complete with its original matching wall bracket. Richly adorned with hand-painted lacquer decoration and elaborate gilt bronze (ormolu) mounts, this grand timepiece exemplifies the refined decorative arts of the French Empire and Restoration periods.
The black lacquer case is finely hand-painted with romanticized chinoiserie landscapes depicting figures, pavilions, and stylized foliage in warm tones of gold, red, and earth pigments. These scenes are framed by lavish gilt bronze mounts featuring scrolling acanthus, floral garlands, classical ornament, and architectural detailing.
The white enamel dial with Roman numerals is elegantly framed by gilt bronze ornamentation, complemented by finely pierced and engraved hands. The sculptural crest surmounting the case enhances the vertical presence and grandeur of the piece.
The original wall bracket is equally important and beautifully executed, decorated with matching lacquer chinoiserie panels and gilt bronze mounts. The shaped apron and drop finial complete the dramatic architectural silhouette, making the clock a true statement installation piece.
